Those present included Bishop Frank Caggiano of Bridgeport, Rev Brian Gannon, Rev Kyle Schnippel, and Angelo Sabella, a longtime member of the apostolate. Courage International is a Catholic apostolate that serves men and women who suffer from homosexual temptations.

During the private audience, they spoke about the healing power of chastity, true freedom as mastery of one’s passions, and surrender to God’s will. Fr. Brian Gannon, Executive Director, said the Pope was very supportive and emphasized that no one is alone and Christ walks with the wounded. The meeting was described as a historic first papal audience for the ministry, active worldwide since 1980.

James Martin appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he described Pope Leo XIV’s approach as continuing Pope Francis’ mission of “welcome and inclusion.” While Fr Martin sought to highlight this continuity, Pope Francis himself never met with Courage International.
