Purim hat eine über karnevalsähnliche Belustigung hinausgehende tiefe spirituelle Bedeutung im Judentum. Es ist vermutlich auch kein Zufall, dass der Beginn des Angriffs auf den Iran am „Schabbat des Gedenkens“, dem Schabbat vor Purim begonnen wurde.
Das jüdische Gedenken an den (historisch so nicht gesicherten) Angriff der Perser auf Anordnung von Haman (einem angeblich direkten Nachkommen von Amalek, dem Enkel Esaus) auf die Israeliten ist in bestimmten religiösen Kreisen Israels (zum Beispiel dem Kreis um Netanjahu) mit einem unbedingten Rachegebot gegenüber denen verbunden, die als „Amalek“ und damit als irrationale, existentielle, hasserfüllte Bedrohung empfunden werden.
„Amalek“ steht für die ewige, nicht änderbare (!) existentielle Bedrohung des jüdischen Volkes durch seine Erzfeinde.
Die Kennung als Amalek ist hierbei einer durchaus großen Streubreite unterworfen und führt zu erheblichen Konsequenzen, da Amalek, also der existentielle Erzfeind, nur vernichtet, aber nicht befriedet werden kann.
Es gibt im Judentum starke Kräfte, die sich von dem Amalek-Prinzip distanzieren und vor dessen Gefahren warnen. Die aktuelle israelische Regierung gehört leider nicht zu ihnen.
Ein bißchen religionshistorischer Hintergrund vermag die irrationalen Facetten der chronischen Konfliktsituation im Nahen Osten (etwas) verständlicher zu machen.

Purim has a deep spiritual meaning in Judaism that goes beyond carnival-like amusement. It is probably no coincidence that the beginning of the attack on Iran began on the “Shabbat of Remembrance,” the Shabbat before Purim.
The Jewish remembrance of the (historically so not secured) attack of the Persians on the orders of Haman (an allegedly direct descendant of Amalek, the grandson of Esau) on the Israelites is associated in certain religious circles of Israel (for example the circle around Netanyahu) with an unconditional demand for revenge against those who are perceived as "Amalek" and thus as an irrational, existential, hateful threat.
"Amalek" stands for the eternal, unchangeable (!) existential threat of the Jewish people by its arch enemies.
The identification as Amalek is subject to quite a wide range and leads to considerable consequences, since Amalek, i.e. the existential arch enemy, can only be destroyed, but not pacified.
There are strong forces in Judaism that distance themselves from the Amalek principle and warn of its dangers. Unfortunately, the current Israeli government is not one of them.
A little background in the history of religion can make the irrational facets of the chronic conflict situation in the Middle East (somewhat) more understandable.
